NHTSA/IACP Standardized Field Sobriety Test Training Course October 17-19

The Darrow criminal defense lawyers organization is pleased to announce that it is sponsoring a NHTSA/IACP Standardized Field Sobriety Test training event on October 17, 18, and 19, 2012.  This intensive three-day course is being hosted at Northwood University in Livonia, Michigan.  The course will be presented by Tony Corroto and William Maze.  The student/practitioner will receive the same training that law enforcement officers receive throughout the nation in the most up to date National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's DUI Detection and SFST course.  Participants will learn and practice the NHTSA standardized field sobriety test battery. Topics will include the proper procedures for administering and interpreting the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand examinations.  The student/practitioner will be required to pass written and practical examinations, demonstrating comprehension of the DUI detection process as well as proficiency in the SFST battery. An alcohol workshop will be conducted where participants will be required to properly administer the SFSTs on volunteers with BACs from 0.00 to 0.15.

Participants will receive a DUI/SFST student manual (08/06 edition), a CD-Rom containing the student manual and various studies, and a certificate of course completion.

The cost for this course is $550.00.  This course is being offered at a discounted rate through Darrow, saving the student over $200.00 from the normally offered price.  A limited number of slots have been reserved for full-time public defenders.  If you are a full-time public defender and wish to participate, please contact us as soon as possible to ensure that we have space.  Lunches and refreshments will be served throughout the day due to the demanding time constraints of the course.  Students will be required to make reservations at a local hotel, and a group discount is being negotiated at this time. We hope to keep students together during the course to ensure that the educational process adheres to the NHTSA requirements but also offers a dynamic learning experience.
