Summary of the 6 Simple Rules to Follow When Stopped by the Police after Drinking

1. Be Polite.

 

2. Do not admit to drinking. Say, "I AM EXERCISING MY RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT." 

 

3. Put the vehicle in park and exit the vehicle with great care. Don’t lean against the vehicle. 

 

4. No field sobriety tests! Politely say, “I AM REFUSING TO PERFORM FIELD SOBRIETY TESTS ON THE ADVICE OF AN ATTORNEY.”

 

5. No PBT / roadside breath test! Politely say, “I AM REFUSING TO SUBMIT TO A PBT ON THE ADVICE OF AN ATTORNEY.” Take the civil infraction ticket.
